Congratulations to Caitlin Ober for being chosen as the PES Book Reviewer of the Week! The book that she gave a 5 star review for is the book Crossover by Kwame Alexander. Josh Bell, known on and off the court doesn’t lack self-confidence, but neither does he lack the skills to back up his own mental in-game commentary: I rise like a Learjet-/ seventh-graders aren-t supposed to dunk./ But guess what?/ I snatch the ball out of the air and/ SLAM!/ YAM! IN YOUR MUG!- Josh is sure that he and his twin brother, JB, are going pro, following in the footsteps of their father, who played professional ball in Europe. The poems dodge and weave with the speed of a point guard driving for the basket, mixing basketball action with vocabulary-themed poems, newspaper clippings, and Josh’s sincere first-person accounts that swing from moments of swagger-worthy triumph to profound pain. This verse novel delivers a real emotional punch before the final buzzer. Caitlin said that the poems were neat and inspiring. She said that because she read this book, she feels that she can do anything she puts her mind to! She has read all of Kwame Alexander’s books. You can find them in the Fiction and Graphic Novel sections of our library. Congratulations Caitlin! #PESReads #PESPantherPride

Fourth grade enjoyed a field trip to the Preston Historical Society today where they had the opportunity to learn about our town’s rich history and the ways it has changed over time. 🕰️ Students got to complete a scavenger hunt throughout the property in the town’s oldest standing building, as well as play traditional games, learn about agriculture, and tour interesting outbuildings. A picnic at the town park afterwards was the perfect finish. Thank you to the Preston Historical Society for hosting our students and enriching our knowledge of our special town!

Congratulations to Piper Daffin for being chosen as the PES Book Reviewer of the Week! The book that she gave a 4 star review for is the book I Survived the Attacks of September 11, 2001 by Lauren Tarshis. When a football concussion benches Lucas, the son of a New York City firefighter, he skips school, goes downtown to the firehouse to be with his uncle, and is caught in the devastation following the attack on the Twin Towers. Piper liked the book because it was very exciting and interesting to learn about what happened on that day. You can find this book in the Fiction section of the library. We also have it as a graphic novel. Congratulations Piper! #PESReads #pespantherpride

Congrats to Mrs. Jen Piasecki on being our staff member of the week! Mrs. Piasecki is a fantastic Kindergarten teacher and is rocking it with our little Panthers! We admire how poised, confident, and caring Mrs. Piasecki is each and every day, and her little Panthers are flourishing and clearly love school (and her!). The first years of school are so important, and Mrs. Piasecki is setting so many of our students up for a lifetime of success with her kindness, skill in the classroom, and compassion for our kids. Thank you for all you do!
